Tag: Nonprotective Witnessing

Nonprotective Witnessing occurs when a person with a caregiving or protective responsibility repeatedly observes coercion, humiliation, intimidation, or relational harm without providing meaningful intervention or protection.

Within developmental captivity, this pattern can leave the child exposed to the original harm while also undermining access to corroboration, safety, and independent relational support.

The mechanism concerns the observable absence of protection rather than requiring certainty about the witness’s motives.
