Tag: Reconciliation

Reconciliation describes the restoration of relationship after harm where truth, accountability, safety, consent, and meaningful change make renewed relationship possible.

Within the Captivity Lens, reconciliation is not the same as forgiveness, contact, proximity, or pressure to resume relationship. It cannot be ethically required where coercion, denial, retaliation, boundary violation, or unsafe power dynamics remain active.

Reconciliation depends on more than the survivor’s willingness. It requires conditions in which responsibility is accurately held, harm is acknowledged, repair is demonstrated, and renewed relationship does not require self-erasure or surrender of sovereignty.
